left. >> good evening, commissioners i'd like to take this opportunity to provide an overview of the new comer pathways we've established in the district for a number of years and the system of supports and the work we've can you think in the last couple of months given the anticipated increase in the number of unaccompanied children in san francisco.

okay first of all, san francisco unified school district k through 12 has 12 newcomer pathways at the emergency room level see chinese ed center those are set sites where students are there from 120 years and troigsdz to a site and mayor ed lee at the middle school there's is visitacion valley and 4 sites it's a new comer comprehensive site where students are in a shrlthsd program and have others courses within the site and at the high school level lincoln and marshal and sf international and sf high school there's so much of the middle school it's a pathway within a comprehensive site that allows the students to have the street light program with

advanced course work for their particular needs and levels. a common question that's been requested and looking at the august engrossment the trend we were able to pill enrollment capacity reports in 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 and that's during the month of august 2013-2014 we already see an increase over 2 hundred and 50 students between last year and this year. we don't necessarily at this point keep day other than the number of immigrant constrain we have resources like foster youth wire using our existing data systems what we have and looking at the number of newcomer students from central america

and mexico you see between 2013 there was a significant increase among all four criticize and at the this point as of yesterday those are the number of students arriving through the educational center through those countries. and also in evaluating the existing data we look at the data available from the office of ruveng stllt the data birthdays and zipping neighborhoods so look at bitter dates we sofrtsdz the list there were 12 had had children those children were detained at the border and released to sponsors the sponsors reside in san francisco. we don't know whether exactly

those students are enrolled in the district of 3 hundred children puss residing in san francisco the majority of those students were high school age children. we also had zip code information of the 3 hundred accomplice children there are significant numbers in the very sincerely, natural and the ingallon side and visitacion valley and bayview hunters point. we take a look at given all the data what we zeroed in on capabilities at the high school level so again those are the 6 pathways we have in the district. as of yesterday those are the first column is our current enrollment and the second column the capacity and the third column the list of number of is

unaccompanied immigrant children for each pathway at the high school level we've got a support that can be described by the did remember first, the student gets the placement they arrive and meet with the school counselor they talk about the post secondary options and resources and referrals. the city hall counselor communicates with the pathway teachers to make sure that the take care is aware of the academic support that the student may need. the take care may refer the student to the high school wellness program where each school has a vibrant wellness center it they may receive mental health as well as legal and housing and others social services like connected to the youth and contribution we talk about that as homeless but

services that are available for unaccompanied mirandize tutoring and uniforms and immediate enrollment and backpacks and transportation and refrltz. there's 23 entry points for youth in transition families in i did not get and transition has an point of contact this is a family social worker or the high school wellness crossroad. this will help the unaccompanied cabinet children with case management tutoring services mefrpt and advocacy in the event that any of the unaccompanied children are places in foster care connected to the school partnerships that include academic support and have connections with legal certifies

and legal support services for san francisco legal educational network. while this graph represents a support cycle it shows and the new comers can access those services at any point >> i wanted to describe the preparation so far we're gathered the data to help the unaccompanied children engrossment and evaluate our new comer system of support connected with our city partners with mayor's office and the supervisor campos office and the office of immigrant affairs and explore grants from private foundations to support those students. moving forward we will continue to enhance the the new comer system to address the needs of the cabinet constrain through the development and collaborate

lecturer in the public department we offer health care services basically free generally free for the undocumented community in the bay area. i'm here in support of the resolution and thank you all for doing this and taking the steps you've taken already and we want to insure this doesn't remain a symbolic gesture we recognize there's a need for social services and we recognize that the school site is where the needs get met or not met we also wanted to stress there's a need for mental health services children are leaving violence in their home criticize and having trauma and telling they come to community that are different and
